Trying to make a racing game that is different is not an easy task to undertake. It has been done, with innovations such as using items against your opponents in a race, an emphasis on a more arcade feeling of racing, rather than a more realistic control and many other methods. If there is a game that can be seen as having an influence on this latest game G Speed, that game would have to be Wipeout. A futuristic racing type game, which had a big emphasis on speed, and while Wipeout could also be compared to its predecessor F-Zero, both games are influenced quite evidently in G Speed and that is a good thing. Speed is a big emphasis in this game.  Besides trying to place as high as you can against your opponents, your goal, as always is to do your best.  And you can do that by not only using your skills, but also by using whatever weapons you choose before the race begins. There are also plenty of different modes to try, as well as some unlockable vehicles and tracks to earn, G Speed offers plenty for racing fans.

As you start up the game, you have many different options to choose from. Firstly, you have your choice of different racing modes to try, from the single race, to championship mode, to time trial mode, to a few different modes. There is armored battle, where you and your opponents have infinite missiles and mines to use in a single race. There is also Super Speeders, where you and your opponents have infinite boosts that you use in a single race setting.

You can also modify the difficulty of the other racers, and set how many laps you wish to race from 4-10, which you may want to change since 4 laps goes by quite quickly. Finally, pick your vehicle, and the track of your choice if you are racing in single race or time trial mode, and you’ll be ready to start.

There are 7 tracks available when you start this game, and there is the option to unlock 3 more, which is a nice incentive to do your best. Each track is different in some aspects, including one with a very nice jump for you to experience.  Some are very similar, but keep in mind with the speed your vehicle is moving at, you don’t really expect complicated and crazy turns.  Still, these tracks will definitely challenge you nevertheless.

The nice variety of racing modes is also a nice touch to see in this game. With some racing games, you usually get the standard single race mode and time trial mode, with sometimes a championship mode thrown in.  But the addition of those two extra modes may not seem like much, but it does add a nice challenge for racers who want a race full of speed, or simply to blast their opponents as much as they’d like.

The controls are also easy to learn, and they handle nicely. It may take you a bit of time to get used to being able to turn properly at the high speeds, but eventually you will get the hang of it. Graphically the game looks quite nice as well.  While the tracks are not too fancy, they do look fine.  As do the vehicles, especially at the high speeds, although it will be hard to notice. Finally, the music tracks fit nicely with each track and sound great.

With its different modes, unlockable tracks, and plenty to experience, any racing fan needs to check out G Speed, especially if you’re a fan of games like Wipeout and F-Zero.  This is a game you definitely need to try.
